這是本 1940 出版的老書，但最近看書，作者恰巧都談到它。

創意不過是舊元素的重新組合/
An idea is nothing more or less than a new combination of old elements.

如何重新組合？

能看到不同事物間的關連性/The capacity to bring old elements into new combinations depends largely on the ability to see relationships.

以上便是最核心的關鍵。

作者說創意生成也和福特造車一樣，是有過程和方法的，方法很簡單，他不怕人學，因為要實踐它才是重點：

1. gather new material.
   主題相關材料/specific material (related to the product or task)，一般性材料/general material (fascination with a wide range of concepts).
2. work over the materials in your mind.
   用「心咀嚼/mentally chew」，從不同角度觀看，實驗各種不同組合。
3. put the problem completely out of your mind
   放下，去做點別的事，充電。
4. your idea will come back to you with a flash of insight
   完全地放鬆時，靈感就來了。
5. Put your idea out into the world, submit it to criticism, and adapt it as needed.
   找有眼光的人，打磨它。

最後，作者認為創意人的養分來自人生經驗，要多去經歷，廣泛地閱讀(作者開的書單從珍奧斯汀、社會學《寂寞的群眾》、語意學《語言與人生》到數學家龐加萊的《科學與方法》)。
